Turtle Island
This project is engaging with the blood of BIPOC Trans, GNC, and Intersex people on the land across this country. We do this aware of the histories of violences, genocides, and erasures of which our ancestors have already endured. At this time, we refer to the united states as “Turtle Island”, language that originates from several North American Indigenous communities. The invocation of the words “united states” in relationship to our work specifically, would decenter it, and we seek languages that will affirm silenced pasts and future returnings. Thus, we may shift this language as necessary, appropriate, or requested.
